Free volunteer management training for green groups and organisations in Dorset

Dear Colleague,

In August you will have received an email from myself about our work with Dorset Youth Association and the Dorset Volunteer Centre, to help environmental groups to engage more effectively with young people and to encourage young people to volunteer in environmental projects.  I am writing to you now because you responded to say you were interested in being involved, and we now have the first FREE training course planned, which you may like to take part in.

This FREE training course will enable environmental groups to learn about about effective recruitment and management of volunteers, with particular emphasis on young volunteers. It takes place on Saturday 10th November at Dorset Youth Association, Lubbecke Way, Dorchester, DT1 1QL, starting at 10am and finishing at 4pm.   More details below:

Support for involving Youth Groups in Green activities

Dear colleague,

da21 has recieved a small amount of funding to work alongside Dorset Youth Association and Dorset Volunteer Bureau to assist environmental groups and organisations to engage with young people.

We are aware that many of you are already involving young people in your work and projects, this support is to build on this, and help to remove some of the barriers around involving young people for those who wish to.

More details are in the letter attached to this email, but a summary of the support we can provide includes

  • Support in attracting youth volunteers to your project / group
  • Two training events, the first planned in October on managing volunteers with a particular emphasis on the skills needed to work with young people
  • A conference in March 2013 bringing together young people and environmental groups working or aspiring to work with them.
  • Advice on CRB checks (which are not always necessary) and free CRB checks where needed
  • Free First Aid Training

Please do get in touch if you feel that you would benefit from support from the project, which runs until March 2013.

Please forward the information to groups and individuals who you feel may benefit.

Apologies for any cross postings.

kind regards
Paul McIntosh & Susan Anders

Volunteer Stewards needed for the Olympic Torch Event 12th July

Good afternoon

Volunteer stewards are needed to assist with the safe passage of the Olympic Torch Relay through Shaftesbury and Blandford on Thursday 12 July. Duties will be to ensure that people remain either on the kerb or at a safe distance as the convoy of vehicles passes and that the Torch Bearers are left free to enjoy their 300 metre run in the media spotlight.

The work should not be difficult and you will receive appropriate training. It will mean you need to be available for most of the morning on 12 July, depending on where you are stationed.

On the up-side, you get to be part of this unique event and you will get a better view of the Torch Relay than almost anyone else!

If you would like to volunteer, or you know someone who might like to help, please email or call on 01258 471456.

Finally, if you want to see what the relay looks like in real time have a look at this link: http://www.london2012.com/torch-relay/video/live.html
