Bangkok Climate Talks Begin – 05 April 2011

Warm Home Discount comes into force – 04 April 2011
New mandatory “Warm Home Discount” scheme worth up to £1.1bn over 4 years has come in to force. Under the new scheme pensioners on Pension Credit Guarantee Credit only will automatically receive annual rebates of at least £120 off their electricity bills, with some support available for other groups too. read more

DECC publish provisional 2010 greenhouse gas emissions and quarterly energy trends statistics – 31 March 2011
Energy Trends and Quarterly Energy Prices publications were published on 31 March along with provisional 2010 estimates of UK greenhouse gas emissions, together with final estimates of 2009 UK greenhouse gas emissions by fuel type and end–user. read more

Ofgem radical overhall – supply companies failing consumers and 30-day price rise notice – 30 March 2011
Ofgem’s “Retail Market Review – Findings and initial proposals“ has found that competition between energy suppliers is being stifled by a combination of tariff complexity, poor supplier behaviour, and lack of transparency. Ofgem has also confirmed new rules that mean energy suppliers must give consumers at least 30 days advance notice before putting up their prices. The changes come into effect on 28 April 2011. read more
