This week I had the pleasure to visit a new Farm Shop and deli in Hazelbury Bryan called Oakleys. This gem is situated on the road towards Mappowder and is set in wonderful Dorset countryside. The shop itself has been designed to fit perfectly within the farm and its surroundings. The picturesque working farm rears its own Aberdeen Angus cattle, lowland sheep and a mixture of rare breed pigs. The shop is fresh, contemporary and well thought out whilst retaining the values of a quality traditional farm shop. The food is all sourced with attention to local and includes wonderful displays of farm reared meat, cheese, charcuterie, bakery and vegetables. Outside they have their own traditional breed pigs and goats in delightful open paddocks and pens that add real meaning to the whole concept. The farm rears its own Aberdeen Angus cattle, lowland sheep and a mixture of rare breed pigs. Transitioners believe in sustainability so supporting our local shops is important. This is so easy with a shop such as Oakleys and if we shop wisely a visit will add greatly to our pleasure and the essence of good eating. TTSN will continue to support the notion of shopping locally as much as we can and getting all our area’s retailers at this level to work together to compete with the major supermarkets.
